After all, what choices did I have? Either I could give him a child or I could leave Kaine now and live an unhappy life without him. The heartache of a future without Kaine overwhelmed my fear. Could I live with myself if I let Kaine die and his dynasty die along with him? I wiped the tears away and stood tall. “Just hold up, Claus.” I held up the palm of my hand, stopping the big lug in his tracks. “Kaine, please, I need to talk to you alone.” Taking his hand in mine, I lifted my head and led my husband out of the room, leaving the two thugs behind.

Hurrying through the house, I focused on one goal: getting to our bedroom before I changed my mind. I had to boink his head off and get myself knocked up. I had no clue what I planned to do after that. The hole in my heart wouldn’t let me think beyond the present moment.

  “Chrissy-doll?”

I whipped around and poked him. “Shut up.” Damn it. He should’ve told me earlier. I would’ve said yes even then. “It’s your turn to listen.” I scanned the hallway, thankful that no servants were around. “If you’d told me the truth before we got married, I would have…” I stopped, fighting the lump in my throat.

“If I had told you then, you would have what, Chrissy-doll? Tell me.”

I allowed Kaine to tug me close, needing the firm reassurance of his chest to battle the ache building inside my heart. “I would have understood. I would have found a way to give you a child.” I gazed into his beautiful eyes. “Even though I would’ve been scared shitless, I would have tried.”

“Now I’m the one who doesn’t understand. Why would you have been scared?” He inhaled, an idea coming to him. “Because I’m a dragon? Chrissy-doll, your child would be conceived and born human. It’s only later, as he grows older, that he would become a dragon. You’d be perfectly safe giving birth.”

“No, that’s not it.” I wrapped my hands around his neck. “Although if I’d had time to think about it, that would’ve frightened me big time. But no, I’ve always been afraid of having a child.”

“But why? Is there something wrong? Please, I need to know.”

“The reason doesn’t matter any longer. I want to give you a child. I can’t imagine watching you die and knowing I could’ve prevented it. Not to mention putting all your people in danger. How could I live with the guilt?” Tension turned my neck into a steel rod.

“That doesn’t answer my question. If it’s not because I’m a dragon, then tell me why you’re afraid of having my baby.” He scanned me, digging for the secret I could barely admit to myself. I braced myself against his invisible attack. “If there’s something wrong, if there’s any way you could be hurt by giving me an heir, then I need to know. Or is it about the baby? Do you think our baby would be…unhealthy?”

I did some searching of my own, gazing into his eyes, trying to detect any sign that he cared for me. Or was he only interested in finding out about any possible defects I might pass on to the infant? “No, that’s not it. Not exactly.”

“Not exactly?” A low growl escaped him. “Chrissy-doll, tell me what’s going on with you? Now.”

I opened my mouth to speak, but suddenly all my words dried up. Although my brain wanted to tell him everything, my heart had squeezed tight, keeping the truth hidden. Let it go, Kaine. Please, don’t make me say it.

He grabbed me by the arms. I gasped, too stunned to pull away. Yet I knew Kaine would never hurt me. At least not physically.

“Chrissy, I’m a patient man, but you are pushing me to my limits. What do I have to do to make you tell me?”

Just love me. Surprised at my silent admission, I dropped my gaze, fearful that he could see those words in my eyes. Instead, I gathered my composure and placed my hands on his arms. He let go of me but didn’t step back. A tear rolled down my cheek and I quickly wiped it away. Hang tough. This isn’t even the hardest part.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you. I’m worried, is all.” His face softened, yet grew sadder. “Chrissy-doll, trust me.”

I wondered if I could do as he asked. His expression—so forlorn, so vulnerable—finally did what his words, his command had failed to do. That look shot through the barricades surrounding my heart, burst into the pain living there and opened the way for my secret to escape. He may not love me as I love him, but I do trust him. Not only with my life, but with my child’s.

“I’ve never wanted a child because…” Almost as though the words had been building up inside me for decades, the truth burst out of me. I shuddered from the avalanche of emotions rolling through me. “Because I’m afraid of leaving her alone like my parents left me.”

Kaine silently waited for me to go on. I swallowed, afraid to say anything more, yet afraid not to. Had I made the wrong decision to tell him? “I couldn’t stand it if my child had to go through what I did. So I decided to never have a child.”

“But, Chrissy-doll, what happened to you parents isn’t going to happen to you.”

My dear old friend Logic told me he was right. But he didn’t know the whole story, hadn’t experienced the heartache I had. “Accidents happen all the time.”

“Yes, of course they do, but to think you’re going to die like your parents did is just plain wrong.”

I wanted to tell him, then hear him tell me I wouldn’t be affected by the same disease my parents suffered, but my heart’s defenses closed ranks, refusing to let any more ache get out. Instead, I took a big breath and resolved once more to give him what he needed. “Maybe you’re right, but that doesn’t matter any longer. I’d rather fight my fear than risk losing you. That is, if you still want me.”

Kaine’s placed his palms on my face. With an expression showering me with love, he spoke quietly, reverently. “Chrissy-doll, I love you. And yes, I still want you. I will always want you. No matter what.”

With his declaration, Kaine wiped away every ounce of dread. I blinked back more tears, struggling between crying about leaving my child alone and rejoicing because my husband cared for me. I should tell him everything. He deserves to know the whole truth. But, once again, uncertainty took hold. Later. I promise I’ll tell him later.

“Come on. Let’s make a baby.” Spinning around, I surged down the hall like Patton charging onto the battlefield. Taking prisoners wasn’t an option with me either and I was bound and determined to win this battle. However, I hadn’t planned on getting lost. Damn this huge mansion.

  “Chrissy-doll, are you lost?”

“Of course not.” I darted my gaze around, trying to get my bearings. “Why would I get lost in my own home?”

“Well, you did say that sometimes you needed a map to get around.”

I could see how he bit the inside of his mouth to keep from laughing. Oh, he thinks he’s so funny! Okay, maybe he was a little funny, but I wasn’t about to let on. “This is exactly where I intended us to be.”

He looked around him. “It is? But this isn’t anywhere near our bedroom.”

“Who said I was headed toward the bedroom?” With what I hoped was a lecherous leer, I grabbed him by the shirt sleeve and yanked him along with me through the closest door. Once inside, I paused and thanked my lucky stars. “See? It’s my office.”

  “Yes, I see.”

Can the doubt in his tone be any clearer? Taking a big breath, I faced him, clutched his shoulders and crammed my mouth to his. He kissed me back, forcefully, matching my anger with heated emotion of his own. Wrapping his arms around me, he lifted me and carried me toward my desk.

“I hope you don’t have any important papers on your desk.”

I studied his expression, trying to decipher what he meant. “Uh, no.”

With one brush of his hand, he swept papers, folders and even my favorite ghost paperweight off my desk and onto the floor. The only thing left on the desk was my computer, which sat off to one side.

He planted my butt on top of the cold wood and pushed me backward, knocking the breath out of me. But that was the last thing on my mind. Instead, I hung on to him as he tore
my shirt away from my chest. Buttons and bra went flying, landing on the paperwork scattered on the carpet. With a groan, he stopped, looked at my breasts, then grabbed them and pushed them together. I tensed, waiting for him to take them into his mouth. Thankfully, I didn’t have to wait long.

Kaine tugged on my nipples, biting, sucking, licking them. I squirmed under the pleasurable assault, arching my back to urge him on. Using his forearm and chest to hold both my breasts with one hand, he slid the fingers of his other hand down the front of my slacks and yanked. I heard the material tear and I lifted my hips to help him pull slacks and thong down my legs.

The darker side of me wanted to demand he get me knocked up and get it over with. If Kaine’s only purpose for marrying me was to produce an heir, then I wanted it over and done. I loved him enough to give him what he needed. “Come on and take me. Shut up and get busy.”

He let go of my tit and paused to stare at me. “No, my love, it’s your turn to shut up.” He ran his gaze down my body, stopping to rest on my mound. When he looked back at my face, I knew what to expect. The man was thirsty and wanted to drink.

He knelt on the floor. “I’m going to eat you up.” Hungrily he attacked my pussy, spreading me wide to lap at the juices already running freely from me.

Omigod, but the man is good at sucking me dry. “Spread my lips. Show me what that tongue of yours can do.”

Kaine used his thumbs and opened me to him, sliding his tongue from the bottom of my slit up to my throbbing nub. Moaning, he ran his tongue around, over and into me. I clutched at the smooth surface of my desk, finding nothing to hold on to. Instead, I grabbed my breasts and squeezed them.

Hey, if my mission was to give him an heir, then I figured I might as well enjoy myself in the process.

“Spread your legs farther apart.” His husky tone spiraled the whirlwind in me faster.

I followed his command, happy to do so. “Eat me, Kaine. Lick me dry.”

With a wild growl, he crushed his mouth against my wetness again. Nipping at me, he moaned with pleasure, yet I was willing to bet I was getting more out of the deal than he was. At least, so far.

“Omigod.” The more he sucked on me, the hotter I grew. I wanted him inside me, deep inside me. “Do it to me. Make me hot, Kaine. Stoke my fire.”

Suddenly he stopped and I almost died. “No!”

“Don’t worry. I’m just coming up for air. And to do this.” Taking my ass cheeks in his hands, he lifted and drove his tongue far inside my cave.

Hot heat—fire—spread from my clit into my abdomen and I bucked, wanting to push him farther inside me, yet needing to get away from the torturous ecstasy. He moaned again, the sound at once tickling and stimulating me.

He nipped and pulled at my clit, pressing his tongue flat against my sensitive nub. Panting, I clutched my breasts, closed my eyes and marveled at the swirl of colors behind my eyelids. A climax tore through me, racking my body, making me unable to do more than mew my relief. And still he didn’t let go of my snatch.

Incredibly, the tension grew again and I couldn’t help but admire the man’s stamina. Was it because he was a dragon? Not wanting to think about my husband’s alternate identity, I swept the question from my mind. Another rush of wetness burst from my body and I jerked as the orgasm throbbed in me. Yet, still, I wanted more.

“Let me see my juices on your face.” Obeying, Kaine glanced up. A grin spread his wet lips. “Good. My come looks good on you.”

His tongue, longer than I remembered, swept over his lips, taking in the remnants of my juices. “I bet mine would look good on you too.”

I laughed at his turnabout on my words and lifted up on my elbows. “I guess we’ll have to test that theory.”

“Theory, huh?” He stood, quickly disrobed and crawled over me, kissing my still trembling body. “No theory; just facts.”

He traced his lips along the curve of my belly, pausing to dive his tongue into my bellybutton. I giggled and reached for his arms, urging him to keep moving. But he wasn’t a man to be rushed. Moving his oh-so-talented tongue, he kept on his journey, sliding over my ribcage to run into the road stop of my tits. He circled lazily around the bottom of one to the hollow between them and over the top of the other.

“I swear, Kaine, if you don’t get your ass moving, I’m going go crazy.” I didn’t bother telling him he was already driving my crazy.

  “Crazy wild, I hope.”

I narrowed my eyes at him. “Just plain crazy.”

  “Ooh, sounds dangerous.”

  “You have no idea.”

I inhaled a deep breath, amazed at how his smile could excite me as much as his tongue between my legs. But that wasn’t his tongue lying against my mound. I returned his smile and glanced down, trying to get a glimpse of his package.

“Looking for something?” He quirked an eyebrow at me.

“Yeah. I want that hot dog you’ve got pressed against me.” I licked my lips, hoping to seduce him into complying. “And I want it now.”

“Why, Mrs. Delcaluca, are you saying what I think you’re saying?” He lowered his body, moving his hips up and down in a slow rhythmic motion.

I growled at him. Hey, I liked games as much as the next girl, but I was ready for the real sport to begin. “Kaine.” I drew out his name, twisted my upper body and tried to reach for his cock. He pretended to play Keep Away, but in the end, lost on purpose. My hand wrapped victoriously around his dick. “Gotcha.”

He gasped, but kept up his rhythm with me providing the friction. “Sure feels like you did.”

I held on, working my hand from his pulsing root to the wet tip of his cap. I tugged when he pulled away. I twisted, adding another dimension to his pleasure. I ran my thumb over the tip, gathering his juices to lubricate my palm. The feel of his pre-come on my hand was too much for me to resist. Slowly, I slid my tongue from the base of his shaft upward, over the slight ridges of blue veins until, at last, I flicked the tip of my tongue over the top of weeping cock. He groaned and I fought back a satisfied smile. I teased him a little while longer, running my tongue around him, pausing to kiss and nibble at his sensitive skin. Another, deeper moan escaped him.

I pumped him a few more times with my hand, letting him think I’d stopped using my mouth, and enjoying his growing frustration as he tried to push my head toward his dick. His shaft grew thicker, longer and I had a hard—pun intended—time keeping up with his ever-increasing pace. Suddenly I deep-throated him, taking his cock all the way inside. Sucking, pressing my lips tightly around him, I pulled away, sliding over his shaft until his mushroomed cap popped out of my mouth. He closed his eyes, concentrating on the enjoyment I gave him.

  “Damn but that feels great.”

I flexed my grip, squeezing and releasing, and kept pumping him. “For me too.” The heat in my abdomen had grown with the heat in my hand. “You’re so big. So long. So hard.” I wanted to give him everything. Physically, emotionally, verbally.

Yet when he tensed and stopped moving, I thought I’d gone too far. “Hold on, Kaine. Don’t let go yet.”

“I’m trying.” He gritted his teeth and started pumping again. “But I’m only human.” Opening his eyes, he caught mine and I saw the mirth there. “So to speak.”

Oh, I am so not going there. Not right now. Later.

Thankful for all those grueling crunches I’d done in the past months, I lifted up so I could catch his balls with my other hand. He twitched, blinking at me in surprise. “Try warning a guy, will ya?”

“I don’t think so. I like it when I can catch you off guard.”

He started to say something, but I could tell he had to use all his determination to keep from climaxing. His breathing grew heavier and I had to watch his face, wanting to see the climax nearing its edge.

My heart raced at the amber in his eyes. Is he changing into his other self? If so, what would that mean for sex? My mind flashed back to the other night, the flames in the water and how I’d bur
ned alive in more than one way. Now I wanted to embrace his inner dragon. “So you’re really…”

He paused just long enough to check my expression. “Yes.”

“Then, Kaine, make me burn.” At first he didn’t understand. As realization dawned, he smiled and the amber grew brighter.

  “Like the other night?”

  “Yes. Like the other night.”

My heart pounded. For some reason, he acted like he didn’t want to do it. I let go of him and slipped my hands over his shoulders. He grumbled at my releasing him.

“You have to understand. Doing that—” he tipped his head, indicating what that meant, “—can be tricky. Even harmful, when we’re not in water.”

I saw the concern in his eyes and knew that, although he may have married me to give him a child, he did care about me. I just wasn’t sure how much. Would he still care after I gave him an heir? Or treat me as a friend? But I didn’t want to examine the future that closely. First things now. “I don’t care. I want heat, baby, heat.”

He frowned and studied my face, irritating me.

“Kaine, you think way too much for your own good. Just fuck me.”

I swear his features shifted, morphing until I saw two faces, the underlying one the face of the man I loved and the other, barely visible above the other like tracing paper over a picture. The other one shook me, frightening me. Yet with my pulse racing, I saw the strange image and recognized its beauty.

Kaine pushed my legs apart and slammed against me, driving his cock hard and fast into me. His balls bumped against the crack of my ass, swaying with his pumping motions. Rocking me back and forth, he worked his hips, ramming against me. With every thrust, the temperature between us rose, friction sparking the flame within.

Kaine may have married me for the wrong reason, a reason he hadn’t told me until now, but I no longer cared. I wanted, craved him and I would do anything to help him. At that moment, I realized something more shocking than the knowledge that my husband was a dragon. I realized I wanted his child, my child, our child. Not only for him, but for me. Damn the future and what might be. Together with Kaine, we’d determine what would be.
